La BIENAL PANAMERICANA
DE ARQUITECTURA DE QUITO (BAQ) es un espacio único de encuentro, reflexión,
comparación y divulgación sobre la arquitectura y la ciudad contemporánea. El
evento es organizado por el Colegio de Arquitectos del Ecuador cada dos años
desde 1978, ellos se encargan de premiar a las obras arquitectónicas,
urbanísticas y literarias más destacadas para la arquitectura ecuatoriana y
panamericana.
Arrachay es un
prototipo de cabaña de madera diseñada para los Andes Ecuatorianos, su diseño
conjuga la prefabricación, el diseño de espacios mínimos y el uso de
tecnologías sustentables. María Beatriz y su equipo autoconstruyen la cabaña en
Nayón para luego trasladarla en dos cuerpos hacia su destino final Papallacta. “Es
a través de la autoconstrucción de la cabaña, donde puedo tener un acercamiento
más personal a la obra, aprender construir en madera y manejar herramientas
pesadas me ha ayudado a empoderarme como mujer y como arquitecta” (María
Moncayo, 2022)
Las dimensiones del
proyecto se basan en la factibilidad del camión que transporta la cabaña y la
optimización de materiales existentes en el mercado. “Sin duda, varios conceptos
implementados en el desarrollo de esta cabaña fueron aprendidos de mis grandes
maestros en la USFQ. El uso de una malla modular, la funcionalidad espacial en
un espacio mínimo y la simpleza de la forma, son conceptos que se han revisado
en varios de los talleres del CADI.” (María Moncayo, 2022)
El proyecto busca tener una huella de carbono negativa durante su construcción, evitando la utilización de materiales derivados del petróleo. Para esto, se apuesta por BIOM, un aislamiento de Biofuente hecho a base de fibra de arroz y desarrollado por YES innovation. De esta manera, la cabaña potencia el uso de materiales sustentables, la madera de ciprés (previamente certificada) y la fibra de arroz, producto que se extrae del residuo de cosechas de arroz en Daule.
